Experimental Media: An Introduction

The briefing on our new project for 2017 explained how Experimental Media is broken down into two individual projects; Experimental Video and Experimental Soundscape.

This unit begins to prepare us for Year 2 by introducing you to the development of experimental film and video and sound art. We will be examining the inter-relationship between experimental moving image, cinema and fine art practice and looking at a range of cultural, formal, political and historical issues emerging from them, therefore broadening our understanding of it all.

Experimental Video
This video can be made individually or collaboratively, depending on how we want to work. It can be no longer than 5 minutes.

Experimental Soundscape
Experimental sound work, continuing for no longer than 5 minutes.

We will also be making a portfolio of all the work we create from this unit, including tasks from workshops that will be presented on our blogs.

Our theme is Transgression:
  • breaking the rules
  • challenging conformity
  • defying boundaries
  • subverting the norm
We began looking at movements such as avant garde, readymades and the dada movement to begin thinking about ideas of experimental media.

I will be doing further research relating to each of the tasks to move forward with ideas and begin thinking about what I want to create.
